Priorities for a Rural District:
1. Infrastructure: Focus on improving roads, bridges, and utilities to enhance connectivity and facilitate economic growth.
2. Agriculture: Support local farmers by providing resources, grants, and incentives to promote sustainable farming practices and boost agricultural productivity.
3. Healthcare: Ensure access to quality healthcare facilities and services, including clinics and hospitals, to address the unique healthcare needs of rural communities.
4. Education: Invest in rural schools and promote access to quality education, including vocational training and distance learning opportunities.
5. Economic Development: Encourage the growth of small businesses, create job opportunities, and attract investments to stimulate the rural economy.
6. Natural Resource Management: Develop policies that protect and preserve the environment, including promoting sustainable d conservation efforts.
7. Broadband Access: Improve internet connectivity in rural areas to bridge the digital divide and promote e-commerce, telemedicine, and online education.
Priorities for Whangarei's Coastal District:
1. Environmental Conservation - Protect and preserve coastal ecosystems, including beaches, wetlands, and marine habitats, through sustainable practices and conservation efforts.
2. Tourism and Recreation: Promote tourism as a key economic driver by investing in coastal infrastructure, marketing campaigns, and supporting local businesses in the hospitality industry.
3. Disaster Preparedness: Develop robust disaster management plans, early warning systems, and infrastructure resilience to mitigate the impact of natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, and sea-level rise.
4. Fisheries and Aquaculture: Support sustainable fishing practices, regulate commercial and recreational fishing activities, and promote responsible aquaculture to protect and enhance coastal biodiversity and fishing industry livelihoods.
5. Coastal Infrastructure: Invest in coastal protection measures, including erosion control, flood mitigation, and seawall construction, to safeguard coastal communities and critical infrastructure.
